WX Mentoring Program
The goal of the WX mentoring program is to promote the advancement of women in the real estate professions, by introducing mentees to career opportunities and female leaders in various real estate fields, through formal programs and formal and informal mentoring, and by using the knowledge and experience of the WX members to assist mentees as they begin their real estate careers. All WX scholarship recipients are eligible to participate in the program.
There will be a series of four programs over the course of a year.
(a) November 7, 2011 – The first program will be an opportunity for WX to present the mentoring program. We will discuss the goals of the program, and provide an overview of planned mentoring activities. A career coach will speak about the mentoring process, and how we can make it effective, and members will speak about mentoring relationships that they developed. After the speakers there will be a break out session for mentors and mentees to meet.
(c) December 8, 2011 – The second program will be about identifying career opportunities and the process of applying for jobs in two parts:
A general session about interviewing best practices, resumes, research, and follow-up.
Sector-specific sessions which will focus on requirements and best practices for interviewees in private equity, development and other fields.
Mock interview and resume review.

(b) Date TBD – The third program will provide an in-depth look at different careers in real estate. At this program, there will be a general session that will be a case study which focuses on the roles of various real estate professionals in a complex transaction, followed by a choice of break-out session. Each break-out session will focus on a particular field. In each session, a panel of speaker describe their jobs, as well as other opportunities within the field, and what the requirements are for working in that field. The panelists will also discuss emerging opportunities in their fields. Each break-out session will end with a question and answer session.
(d) April 10, 2012 – The fourth program will be comprised of general and break-out sessions addressing career development - including expanding one's skills, learning to be a manager, promotion and advancement, finding a mentor in the workplace, and opportunities for mentees to become active in professional organizations in their fields.
Each program will be followed by informal networking and cocktails.
This program is designed to supplement WX programming that is already available to scholarship recipients, including Perspectives (WX's annual gathering of WX members and junior real estate professionals), Conversations (an interactive panel discussion with industry leaders), and our monthly member breakfasts.
An organizational meeting for members who are interested in volunteering as mentors will take place this spring, and information about the program has been provided to past scholarship recipients and will be discussed at a reception for scholarship recipients in June.
